Frequently Asked Questions about the brainLight-Systems

Questions are often repeated to us, so we have summarized the most common for you here.

How does audio-visual stimulation work?

Due to the phenomenon of FFR (frequency following response), the human brain can follow a prolonged acoustic or optical stimulus and eventually begin to oscillate in the frequency's electrical wave pattern. To give you an idea of how the stimuli begin to work on your eyes and ears in just a few seconds of the deep relaxation program, picture in your mind the magic of flickering flames, the interplay between light and shadows when walking down a tree-lined avenue or the sun glinting off the sea waves.

What are brainwaves?

Our brain power is based on electricity. Each of the billions of our brain cells electrically "fire" or discharge in a certain frequency. These electrical signals can be recorded on an EEG (electroencephalogram), similar to how a seismograph registers the earth's movements. The EEG does not measure the electrical signal of a single brain cell, but instead measures the cooperative electric pattern of the network from millions of cells that discharge together. These collective energy impulses are called brainwaves. Since the first EEG was developed in the 1920s, scientists have discovered that the brain produces four different types of brainwaves called beta, alpha, theta and delta waves.

How are the brainLight-Systems' audio-visual frequencies produced?

This is a valid question, as the systems deal with very low frequencies from around 0.5 Hz - 30 Hz, which even large speakers cannot play. Therefore, another form of technology is applied in the brainLight-Systems: the equivalent light and sound impulses are emitted. A frequency of 10 Hz corresponds to 10 acoustic and visual stimuli per second.

What proof is there supporting the effect of brainLight-Systems?

Acousto-optic systems have been scientifically researched for decades. The effectiveness was confirmed repeatedly by EEG recordings, heart rate variability measurements and by our surveys completed by test subjects. As the areas of application of the brainLight-Systems change and expand over time, we regularly carry out new studies focusing on different areas. For example, the important role that brainLight-Systems play in relaxing employees in a variety of businesses today would have been unthinkable in the 1990s. Such trends then require up-to-date studies that are tailored to the new area of application.

Can the brainLight-Synchro system be harmful?

If you pay attention to the contraindications, the brainLight-Synchro is a safe tool, with which you can only do good for yourself. The brain is physically stimulated with sensory stimuli in a naturally gentle way via the sensory organs, the eyes and ears, to adapt to the given frequencies. In contrast to the influences which we are constantly exposed to via radio, television, internet and our environment, with the brainLight-Synchro's choice of programs you can decide for yourself the direction in which you want to stimulate your brain. Our systems work exclusively with frequencies that the brain usually produces (up to 40 Hz). If you pause or stop using the brainLight-Systems there are no withdrawal symptoms or anything similar.

When and how often should I use the brainLight-Systems?

There are only set formulas for programs focused on your personality, for example if there is a habit you would like to change. These can be concrete actions, such as smoking or your eating behaviours, or emotional states like low self-esteem. For these it is advisable to do the deep suggestion technique or mental training program 21 times in a row, preferably at the same time of day or on the same day each week. This should either be completed over 21 consecutive days or spread over a period of 7 weeks, with three applications per week.

For all other areas of application, you should allow your own needs to dictate the pace. The program titles and descriptions suggest which application is best suited to each situation or time of day. The more regularly you use a type of program, the stronger its long-term effects (see next questions).

How long do the effects of an application last?

This differs for each individual and depends on how you feel that day. What our studies and experiences have shown, however, is that the immediate effect of an application can be increased through regular use. For example, the instant stress relief from a 20 minute deep relaxation program can develop from increased strees relief after the first use, to continuous stress resistance when used long-term. Furthermore, there are also effects which can evolve over longer periods of time. The brainLight-System is above all an impulse transmitter, which stimulates your body to get to specific states. Once these are "learned and practiced", they become easier to reach, even without brainLight application.

Do I have to do anything specific for the brainLight-Systems to have an effect on me?

Due to the scientific and well-founded approach of the frequency following response (FFR), the brainLight-Systems' audio-visual stimulation helps you to achieve your desired results whilst you sit and relax. Creating a comfortable exterior setting which you feel at home in to use the brainLight-Systems can also make it easier for you to "switch off" and to look deeper within yourself.

When should I not use the brainLight-Systems?

Please see contraindications for more information.

What is the difference between the colors of the visualization glasses?

White:

The brainLight visualization glasses with white LEDs are included in the contents of the brainLight-Systems (except in our systems specially for children) by default. The color white has the longest light wave length and thus reaches the majority of the eye's light receptors. With these visualization glasses, the best results are achieved over a long period of use.

Red:

Peope who initially do not see colors with white or green LEDs, experience beautiful, bright lighting effects with the red LEDs. The degree of stimulation lies between the white and green visualization glasses.

Green:

The visualization glasses with green LEDs are especially suitable for people with light sensitive eyes. We also recommend these for the learning programs and for children. Our Touch Synchro clever is made for children and therefore comes with visualization glasses with green instead of white LEDs.

Blue:

The visualization glasses with blue LEDs are similar to the white LEDs, but with a more special, positive effect.

Why do deep suggestion techniques have a more intense effect when in combination with the brainLight-Synchro?

Relaxation is the key to accessing your subconscious. This is necessary for the deep suggestion techniques to take effect. The brainLight-Synchro guides you into a very deep relaxation with the light and sound impulses, which creates the ideal condition for using deep suggestion techniques.

Why do the colors in the visualization glasses change and what is their significance?

If you can see a change of colors from behind your closed eyes whilst using the visualization glasses, this is normally happening in parallel to the development of your inner state. Furthermore, it is a sign that your subconscious is responding. The colors have an individual meaning for each user. During deep relaxation, blue and green can stand for the immersion into relaxation, purple for the state of light or medium relaxation and white for a very deep relaxation. Be alert and explore your inner world.

Can I use the brainLight-Systems with a hearing aid?

Yes - but make sure you test whether the brainLight application feels comfortable with your hearing aid. If it is not, take out your hearing aid and turnn up the headphones using the volume regulator on the cable. If your listening ability varies in each ear, we recommend using headphones which have separate volume controls on both sides. Please contact us for further information.

Which headphones are best suited to which circumstance?

What types of headphones are there? - There are 4 main types.

Firstly, there are the over-ear headphones, which sit around your ears to allow you to enjoy the sound to the fullest.

Next are the on-ear headphones, which are very similar to the over-ear headphones. However, the difference is that the ear cushion sits on the ear, rather than around the ear.

Finally, there are the in-ear headphones. This group is divided into two further groups:

Earphones, such as the Apple iPod earphones. These sit in theoutside of the ear, exactly over the opening of the ear canal.

The in-ear headphones, when used correctly, go deeper inside the ear, so that they seal the entrance of the ear canal, shielding most of the exterior noise around you.

What are noise-cancelling headphones?

Noise-cancelling headphones absorb any surrounding noises with their electronic technology. Even if the companies use slightly different technology, generally there is a small integrated microphone, which identifies the surrounding noises and emits an opposite signal to absorb the sound. This technology is best suited for constant sound, such as the hum of a plane or a subway. These types of headphones require batteries. Many model do, however, allow you to listen to music without batteries or with the active noise cancellation, whilst others can only play music when charged batteries are inserted. You can find the active noise-cancelling technology in the in-ear, on-ear and over-ear headphones.

You can find our headphones here.
